Professional Poker Champion Kenna James and SunPoker have announced the start of a brand new poker league, The Kenna James Bounty League. This new league will start by rewarding a total of four SunPoker members with $10,000 seats at the main event of the L.A. Poker Classic, an additional $2,500 for hotel and airfare, and a personal training session with Kenna James.
The newly formed Bounty League will feature a $22 buy-in tournament every Thursday where SunPoker members will have the opportunity to play against Poker Superstar Kenna James. The lucky SunPoker member who knocks out Kenna will receive $500 in prize money as well as extra bounty points. Bounty points are given out for participating in each tournament, for knocking Kenna James out of a tournament, and based upon the players' tournament performance. The more tournaments members' play, the more points they will be able to accumulate. Point totals will be refreshed each month, allowing every player a new opportunity to play and win.
The final table at the end of each month, determined according to the top 10 bounty point holders, will award one winner a place in "The James Gang", as well as one of the four monthly grand prizes. This prize package will be available during October, November, December, and January, with the L.A Poker Classic starting in February.

| Ivey the favorite heading into WSOP 2006 |

The main event of the 2006 World Series of Poker is set to be the biggest ever. It is anyone's guess who will win as someone almost always comes out of nowhere to take the annual No Limit Texas Holdem tournament. With an unrivaled field and prize pool it is one of the most unpredictable major sporting events.
Nevertheless there are many trying to guess who will be the eventual winner. Phil Ivey is the favorite according to almost all online sportsbooks. Betfair has him at an amazingly low 30-1 while you can take him at a much more reasonable 125-1 at bet365. Other favorites are Daniel Negreanu, Howard Lederer, Gus Hanson, Johnny Chan and Phil Hellmuth.
Last years champion Joseph Hachem is a long shot to repeat. The last time it was done was by Chan in 1987-88. Hachem can be found anywhere from 100-1 to 500-1.
The World Series of Poker is set to take place at the Rio in Las Vegas in August.

| AGA calls for study of internet gambling |

The latest action by the American Gaming Association (AGA) likely hinders efforts in Congress to ban Internet gambling. The AGA represents major real-life casinos in Las Vegas and throughout the United States. Its board of directors agreed unanimously this week to call for a one-year study of Internet gambling. The study is to conclude whether online gambling should or should not be legal in the United States.
President Frank Fahrenk maintained his association is neutral on the online gambling question. Bob Goodlatte, a Republican from Virginia, has led an effort to outlaw Internet gambling in the past several months. Goodlatte's bill to prohibit Internet gambling has 131 co-sponsors in the House but could have greatly benefited from the full support of the AGA.
“There have been great technological advances in the last 10 years, so we think it is important for a commission to be appointed to take a look at this and see if Internet gambling can be properly regulated,” said Fahrenkopf who also estimated there will be between $12 billion and $15 billion bet on the Internet this year (60 percent from U.S. citizens). “Something has got to be done about this, and we need to know if technology exists that can protect young people, pathological gamblers and prevent money laundering.”

Casion Arizon will host the first ever Arizon State Ladies Championship of Poker on September 16th. Over 400 women are already registered to play in the No Limit Holdem tournament. The prize pool is expected to be over $100,000, with the top 40 getting paid off.
"I think that the average of all our tournaments, 10 percent are women," said Dave Smith, tournament coordinator. "Five years ago, that . . . was probably 1 percent."
Now they have their own tournament.
